Going East

JAMES LONG, Marques Almeida and Maarten van der Horst have been announced as Fashion East's spring/summer 2012 designer line-up. Although Long made his Fashion East womenswear debut last season, Central Saint Martins graduates Almeida and van der Hoorst are both newcomers for London Fashion Week.

"We're delighted to support James Long for a second season," says Fashion East founder Lulu Kennedy. "His womenswear debut last season went down great with buyers and press alike - the signature handknits were killer, I loved the Alpaca clutches, and the floor-length body-con knit dresses were hot and super-wearable. We spotted the two newcomers at the Central Saint Martins MA show. They were stand out, in what was a very strong year. The panel loved the energy and bold optimism of their collections, it felt fresh and confident. They are determined individuals with a well-developed aesthetic plus great attitude. The gear is really fun and I'd wear it in a heartbeat. We have a pretty explosive mix on our hands for September!"

Soaring Cityscape Photography

Rich with scenery and full of New York City love, the Luna Teifke One Magazine May 2011 editorial captures exhilarating city life. Full of colors and sky-high buildings, the shoot is a feast for the eyes.

Photographer Karine Basilio captures the Luna Teifke One Magazine shoot in the middle of the city’s traffic and bustle. Found in landmark places like in front of the New York Philharmonic and on a busy street in Manhattan, the model stands out from the crowd with her glamorous appeal. Stylist Diana Andreea ouftits her in sleek and stylish dresses of all different colors from fashion houses like Miu Miu and Diane Von Furstenberg.

With the combination of mystery, glamour and remarkable street life, the Luna Teifke One Magazine shoot is truly a stunning one.

As much as I love the natural and more subtle backdrop, big city and the life they bring are truly amazing as well, New york city is of course a great place but Chicago is a city where i am lucky to visit often and it makes my eyes light up every time we drive towards downtown the landscape and architecture is just gorgeous

Cannes Film Festival 2011

Zoe Saldana in Armani Prive, I love this dress its quite simple but still interesting with the use of stripe and draping detail! Fan Bing Bing in another Chinese inspired gown at the opening of the festival, fan wore a fire-engine red gown with traditional motifs embroidered all over it. the strapless dress had a bow on the chest and a cape which doubled as a train. i love the pearl clutch and matching lips. this dress was designed by fan’s stylist bo kewan. i like that she kept the whole look traditional by choosing the ancient tang dynasty style for her hair. way to be patriotic.(source:amaraj.wordpress.com)

Mia Wasikowska is far from Alice and wonderland in this Valentino Couture dress which is beautiful in the light nude shade and how its very 'lady -like' but still sexy in its own way!

The Arrival of the Asian Supermodels

The Arrival of the Asian Supermodels
Rana Kabbani's Road To Revolution tells of the writer's feelings and experiences as an Arab in this era of great change in the region. The New Guard explores the rise of Asian models within the industry, whilst Paolo Roversi's Neo Geisha shoot takes inspiration from the recently troubled nation of Japan: both its heritage and its cutting-edge modernity.

I thought this article in the June issue of British vogue was very interesting and shows the growth in world culture and how it can transform through time.

Dion Lee at Sydney Fashion Week

Images from Glamour Magazine.co.uk

The 22-year-old Sydney-based designer graduated from Fashion Design Studio, Sydney Institute of Technology in early 2007 and has already secured himself some stellar stockists to start selling his wares.

Inspired by the construction of clothing, the Lee’s work focuses primarily on innovative cut and pattern making. Often woven and intertwined, the young designer utilises structured and fluid tailoring, transparency and opacity and functional detailing to create a modern balance of innovation and wearability.

Dion Lee Autumn/winter 2011-12 collection at sydney fashion week attracted me with his contemporary but clean clothing which has a great certain commerical appeal but still being original pieces. Also the colours used are a lovely lighter palette for the winter season.
