Mao to Now Exhibition...too bad it's in Minnesota:(
'Wu Haiyan's all black and white designs use geometric shapes and diagonal lines, as well as plenty of frills and ruffles. The result is some jaw dropping pieces that harken back to early 20th century lines with 21st century pizzaz.' (blogs.citypages.com)
'Wang Yiyang's designs featured in the exhibit have a very urban feel, but still utilize shapes, often disarmingly so, like the t-shirt with the very large blue rectangle attached to the front, or the long pleated plaids skirt paired with a puffy printed jacket.' (blog.citypages.com )

By Liu Camming (goldstein.design.umn.edu)This exhibition looks and sounds really interesting, wish I could go but too bad its half way across the world , nevertheless its nice I found out about it.
Here's a description about the exhibition from the Goldstein Museum of design website:
Chinese culture changed drastically between 1949 and the present. The evolution of Chinese fashion reflects how the culture transformed. “Mao to Now” is divided into three periods: pre Mao (1912 to 1948), the Mao era (1949 to 1977), the era of the nondescript Mao suit and the post-Mao era (1978 to present), which demonstrates how, after Mao, Chinese fashion began to exhibit an increasingly dramatic melding of Chinese and Western design expression.
The work of four top Chinese fashion designers will be included in the exhibition: Wu Haiyan, Liu Canming, Wang Yiyang, and Zhang Da. In addition to the items of dress and accessories, the exhibition will feature photographs by high-profile Chinese journalists and photographers to illustrate the differences between the periods.

Marc By Marc Jacobs -spring 2011 Campaign
I like how in the campaign the girls are sat so laid back and kinda 'cool' looking and the contrast of the two girls, one is really casual and the other dressed quite elegant and neat.

Kyle Bean Installation !!
'Having worked for clients such as the New York Times and BBC, and created inspiring window displays for Hermes and Liberty, it’s unsurprising that Selfridges snapped up Brighton-based designer Kyle Bean’s talents, once he had pitched this wonderful window display concept to them. Drawing upon the theory that ‘Matter cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed’ – Bean’s window displays showcase objects in their original form, side by side with inspirational transformations, weighing scales demonstrating that even after transformation, the matter remains equal……' (theimport.co.uk)

I love he window displays for Selfridges, they are so simple but overly creative. I feel like there's a story he's trying to tell or display through each of the installations but I m not sure what it is! Source & Images from theimport.co.uk

Black & White Folding Fashions
Rick Owen Spring 2010 Collection
'Rick Owens crafted fabrics for his Spring 2010 show as if he was a Japanese origami master. There were crisp black, white and grayscale hues, combined with sharp corners that gave his models edginess.' ( Trendhunter.com)
I like how his forms are simple and muted but still youthful and 'cool'
Coming across this collection it makes me feel like I identify with it much more because it carries the same asethetics as my collection besides the monochrome colour palette!

The journey of the jacket (Part 3)
Just working on some changes to the jacket, which is quite complicated to make even though it look quite simple. Changes include: the lapel and taking out some volume in the back as well as adding pockets!
